This month's issue on 'Ethics' aims to update members of the legal profession on the 'do's and don'ts' of legal professional etiquette. We open with a brief description of the recent amendments to the professional conduct and publicity rules and the reasons for these changes. The Council of the Law Society then provides lawyers with both ethical and practice guidance on the use of IT in law firms. To round off this section, a practitioner discusses a solicitor's duty of confidentiality and examines the recent case law in Singapore and the UK.
Moving on to our 'Features' section, the key changes brought about by the new Arbitration Act 2001 and the corresponding amendments to the International Arbitration Act are reviewed and explained. This section is concluded with an article on the use of financial planning knowledge to enhance the legal advice given by lawyers
to their clients, thus increasing the profile and competitiveness of a practice.
