The Law Society warmly welcomes its newest addition, Jayanthi Balakrishnan,
who joined the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme ('CLAS') as an administrative assistant
on 23 July 2001.
Just a few weeks into her job and Jayanthi has already settled in nicely, greatly relishing her visits to the remand where she gets to interview potential applicants for legal assistance. Administrative work is not new to this cheerful girl with the megawatt smile who spent three-and-a-half years at the Ministry of Community Development and Sports. She is greatly enjoying her bigger role, especially conducting interviews and writing statements.
'I find this job very thrilling and challenging, meeting different people, talking to them and making recommendations for free criminal legal aid. I wish to work hard and become a well-known administrative assistant', she proclaims enthusiastically. Already she has found her second home at CLAS, saying she loves the homely and friendly work environment. In her spare time, this spunky girl enjoys drawing portraits of Hindu gods, which she generously gives away to friends, as well as cooking spicy food and the occasional game of bowling.
