The Ten Tenors Return
Larger Than Life
Despite
postponement of their concert last year, once Australian singing
sensations The Ten Tenors got to Singapore in August, they certainly gave local
audiences something lasting to remember them by. The 10 men-in-suits had people
standing in the aisles — stomping and clapping repeatedly for encores, asking
for more.
A year later they still get fan mail from Singapore, says Matthew Hickey, Artistic Director of the group, whose performance at the Esplanade was dubbed the ‘standout’ performance of 2003 by The Business Times Singapore.
Those fans and many others — who are likely to range from ages eight to 80 — will be glad to note that the irrepressibly fun and talented group will be back to perform in Singapore for two dates.
With their background in classical music training and love of contemporary pop and rock, The Ten Tenors perform the best of both, delivering the songs in irreverent Aussie style.
This time around, The Ten Tenors bring you a brand new show named after their next album — Larger than Life. This one also promises to get audiences going. Still the rollicking mix of classical opera, classic rock and pop that they have become famous for, The Ten Tenors — Larger than Life show in Singapore will include favourite opera tunes as well as classics such as Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody and the Bee Gees’ Stayin Alive.
The ‘opera made fun’ tactic seems to have worked. The Ten Tenors has performed to millions in Australia, Europe and the US. Over the past few years, they have become staples on the European arts calendars touring up to nine months of the year there to sell-out audiences. They are now household names with television specials and endorsements, guest appearing at Eurovision song contest and on the soundtrack of Jungle Book 2.
After their successful US debut in March 2003 to rave reviews, it is the Americans turn to wake up to the phenomenon that is The Ten Tenors. Promoters have rebooked them half way through the show for the next tour and they are set to appear on television shows, tracing their story from being put together for a television special as a laugh to international fame seven years later.
With their new album due in June, you will be seeing more of The Ten Tenors’ music in music shops and television sets near you. For now, here’s the chance to see the fun, hip and talented 10 young men up close and personal.
A Berlin newspaper couldn’t have it put it better when its headlines announced, ‘Make way Pavarotti. Here come The Ten Tenors!’
Their website www.thetentenors.com includes a daily tour diary that will have you chuckling as well as video and audio clips in all their comic glory.
