Quarter-final (‘QF’) and Semi-final (‘SF’) Stage

All eight teams were then drawn into four quarter-final matches, with the first placed teams in each group playing the fourth placed teams in the other group and the second placed teams playing the third placed teams. The results were as follows:

QF1

R&D       3              PP           1

QF1

R&D       3              PP           1

QF2

M&A        3              CCW      0

QF3

HEP        1              R&T        1 (R&T win on penalties 9–8)

QF4

LS           1              A&G        0

The eight teams then went on to compete for the Cup and the Plate trophies. The winners of the quarter-final matches moved on to play for the Cup trophy and the losers of the quarter-finals played for the Plate trophy.

The results from the semi-final matches in the Cup and Plate competitions were as follows:

Plate SF1

PP           3              A&G        0

Plate SF2

CCW      1              HEP        2

Cup SF1

R&D       0              LS           1

Cup SF2

M&A        4              R&T        0

Subsequent to the above semi-final matches, Pala’s Pals unfortunately had to pull out of the competition due to numerous injuries, and the A&G team took its place in the Plate Final instead.

As such, the following teams made it to the finals:

Plate Final

A&G            v          HEP

Cup Final

M&A            v          LS

Finals Stage

The finals was held at the Bukit Gombak Stadium soccer field on 7 February 2004, after the traditional year-end rainy season washed away all attempts to organise the games within 2003.

The finals stage this year was also graced by the presence of Mr Chelva Rajah SC, as the Guest-of-Honour.

Aside from the above finals for the Cup and Plate trophies, a third placing match was also played for the Cup competition between R&D and R&T.

The first game to be played was the Plate Final between A&G and HEP, which ended 5–2 in favour of HEP, despite Kok Tsung Hao’s valiant attempts to rally his A&G team.

Plate Final

A&G        2              HEP        5

Next, the game to be played was the 3rd/4th placing match between R&D and R&T, which ended in a 6–0 scoreline in favour of R&D, mostly due to the fact that R&T had scarcely enough players to start the game with.

Cup 3rd/4th

R&D       6              R&T        0

The Cup Final match between M&A and LS really lived up to all the hype and friendly banter leading up to the game itself. After M&A had gone ahead with a clever finish from Trevor D’Cruz, LS came steaming back in the second half with an equaliser from Tan Choon Kiat and went ahead on an own goal off a M&A defender. With barely minutes remaining, M&A finally equalised with a well-taken goal from Mark Tan.

During extra time, both teams continued to go at each other looking for the ‘golden goal’ to seal the tie. LS had a couple of good chances to win it, but Sivaganesh came up with some super saves. With only five minutes left on the clock, Derek Kang won it for LS after slotting the winner underneath Siva from a through pass.

Cup Final

M&A        2              LS           3              (After extra time)

All in all, it was a wonderful and exciting end to the tournament, which the spectators enjoyed thoroughly.

After the Cup Final, the Guest-of-Honour, Mr Chelva Rajah SC gave away prizes to the winning (and losing) teams as well as to the Top Scorer of the Tournament, Mr Mohamed Azmi from R&D and the Best Player of the Tournament, Mr Tan Choon Kiat from LS.
