Interstate Badminton Tournament
The Law Society of Singapore was cordially invited by the Johore Bar Council to
participate in the prestigious Interstate Badminton Tournament initiated by
various Bar Council states of
Malaysia on
16 July 2005.
The tournament marked a great step in fostering closer ties amongst practitioners, the Judiciary and legal officers of Malaysia with the Law Society of Singapore. The participants of this year’s tournament included:
1
the Johore State Bar
2 the Selangor State Bar
3 the Kelantan State Bar
4 the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Bar
5 the Pahang State Bar
6
the Judicial and Legal Service Office Association (JALSOA)
Our Law Society played a total of three matches with the scoring as follows:
1 Singapore v JALSOA 3-2
2 Singapore v Johore State Bar 1-4
3 Singapore v Selangor State Bar 1-4

Players from the Law Society of Singapore endured the massive causeway traffic and enthusiastically gathered with our worthy opponents (very familiar by now due to the many Bench and Bar games in the past). Exchanges of gifts, business cards and information about good deals on sports wear, rackets and bags in various parts of Malaysia and in Singapore was the best part of the reunion.
After an exhausting round of games, our players wolfed down a late Sudanese lunch. This was followed by a sumptuous and beautiful dinner at the Hyatt Hotel graced by the presence of the Johore State Legal Advisor, YB Tuan Yaacob Bin Haji Md Sam and Circuit Judge, YA Dato’ Azhar Bin Mohamed.
The dinner and dance came to a close with a full karaoke session with everyone singing to their hearts’ content. In fact, the event was so successful that the Chairman of the Johore Bar Committee has extended an invitation to the Law Society of Singapore to have a series of games involving golf, cricket, football, netball, and badminton in the coming months. Members of the Law Society of Singapore and the Johore Bar Council are looking forward to competing in the above events. These events, as the Chairman of the Johore Bar Council said, shall contribute towards the building and rebuilding of a long and fulfilling relationship with our close neighbours for years to come! We should certainly give our fullest support to these activities.
