Law Society Shield
Cross-Country Run
The combined team of Allen & Gledhill/Linklaters Allen & Gledhill (‘A&G/LA&G’) won its third consecutive team title in the annual Law Society Shield Cross-Country Run held at the MacRitchie Reservoir Park on 8 May 2005. This year’s contest was, however, a close one, with Clifford Chance Wong (‘CCW’) a mere four points behind in second place. Drew & Napier LLC (‘D&N’) took third place. A total of seven teams took part this year.
In the Ladies (Open) category, perennial champion Wendy Yap (A-G’s Chambers) was expected to do well after missing last year’s run due to injury, and she did not disappoint. Her winning margin of 1 minute 43 seconds was the widest among all the categories.
In the Men’s (Junior) category, defending champion Nathan Dodd (A&G/LA&G) was given a determined challenge by newcomer James Bole (CCW). In the end, Nathan’s experience and knowledge of the undulating 3.5km route proved crucial and he was able to pull ahead of James to win in 15 minutes 49 seconds. Nathan also laid claim to the fastest overall runner title for the fourth year running.
Harold Or (A&G/LA&G) won his eighth consecutive Men’s (Senior) category title, his finishing time of 16 minutes 20 seconds equalling the previous record he set in 2003.
The Men’s (Veteran) category saw Gary Pryke (D&N) retaining his title in a time of 18 minutes 32 seconds which broke the previous record of 18 minutes 45 seconds set by Rajan Nair in 2003.
In spite of the heavy downpour before the run, more than 100 lawyers and law firm staff participated in the run. Mr Tan Siah Yong, a member of Council of the Law Society, gave away the prizes.
