9th Charity Golf Tournament

The Law Society’s 9th Charity Golf Tournament was held on 10 September 2006 at the Singapore Island Country Club (‘SICC’) to raise funds for the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme (‘CLAS’). The Charity Golf Tournament was the brainchild of the Minister for Law, Professor S Jayakumar (as he then was) nine years ago when he approached Mr Giam Chin Toon, SC to be the Organising Chairman of the inaugural Tournament.

Nine years on, Professor S Jayakumar continues to be our patron of this annual fund-raising event. With his unstinting support and that of generous well-wishers, many of whom have been supporters of the Tournament since it was inaugurated, the event raised a sum of $125,185 this year.

The New Course of the SICC proved to be a tough challenge for many. The field of 139 saw 67 players failing to break a 100, with only 15 players breaking 90. For the first time, the Tournament used the Double Peoria handicapping system, which turned out quite nicely, balancing the elements of skill and luck to produce a fair handicapping system amongst the players. This was reflected in the winning scores.
