Tan Chee Meng, SC of Harry Elias Partnership was recently the proud and only recipient of the Senior Counsel appointment given at this year’s Opening of Legal Year ceremony on 7 January 2006. Chee Meng is the 42nd recipient of this prestigious distinction, which is given by a selection committee comprising the Chief Justice, the Attorney-General and the Judge(s) of Appeal. When asked how he felt about the appointment, Chee Meng who is also the managing partner of Harry Elias Partnership, had this to say, ‘The honour and excitement of the appointment put me on cloud nine initially, but I realised with it came higher expectations, both from clients and the legal fraternity. Very quickly, I was brought back down to earth.’
