Appointment of Committee of Council to Approve Members’ Requests for Use of Courts’ Bar Rooms
Council appointed a committee of Council, comprising Mr Francis Xavier as chairperson and Ms Lisa Sam and Mr Lee Terk Yang as members, to approve members’ requests for use of the Courts’ Bar Rooms for private events.
Proposed Amendments to the Penal Code
Council was advised that the ad hoc committee would present a second status report on the progress of their work at the next Council meeting in February 2007.
Review of Capital Punishment as a Sentencing Policy
Council was advised that the review committee would present a further status report on the progress of their work at the next Council meeting in February 2007.
Revamp of Society’s Website
The secretariat gave a presentation of the key improvements and features of the revamped Society’s website which included:
1 an enhanced search engine which would enable more comprehensive searches of the website;
2 an improved members’ login function;
3 reorganisation of the old archives and indexes into a new section called ‘Resource Library’;
4 a new calendar of events listing all events of the Society with the respective registration forms linked;
5 inclusion of photographs of members of Council and a comprehensive secretariat contact list for easy reference by members and members of public;
6 a news link (with links to major international newspapers); and
7 a new ‘Membership Privileges’ section and a revised ‘Membership Services’ section.
Council noted that the revamp of the website, launched on 1 February 2007, had been made at no additional expense to the Society, and that the secretariat would be holding a familiarisation workshop and road shows for members and support staff.
40th Anniversary Gift for Members
Council approved the gift proposal for members in commemoration of the Society’s 40th anniversary. To publicise and to inform members of the various schemes available to help members in need, the gift would bear details of the Society’s various welfare and pastoral schemes.
