Council Update

Renewal of the Society's
Mandatory Professional Indemnity Scheme
Mr Lok Vi Ming, SC, vice-chairman of the Professional Indemnity Committee, and
representatives of the Society's brokers, Lockton Singapore Private Limited,
appeared before Council to give a presentation on the renewal terms of the Society's
mandatory professional indemnity scheme ('the scheme') for the practice year
commencing 1 April 2007.
Council agreed with the
recommendations of the Professional Indemnity Committee and approved the renewal
terms of the scheme. Members would be notified of the renewal terms of the scheme
via a circular.
Proposed Amendments to
the Penal Code
Council was informed that the ad hoc committee was finalising its views on the
proposed amendments to the Penal Code and that the committee would submit its
final report at the next Council meeting in March 2007.
Review of Capital Punishment as a Sentencing Policy
Council was advised that the full report of the Review Committee would be completed
soon.
Programmes of the Sports
Committee
Mr Joseph Liow, Chairman of the Sports Committee, appeared before Council, to
brief Council on the Sports Committee's proposed programmes and budget for the
year. The proposed sporting activities to be held in 2007 included the Bench
& Bar Games, Inter-Professional Games, Johor-Singapore Games and the Cross-Country
Run. Council referred the Sports Committee's proposed budget for its activities
to the Finance Committee for its views.
