Re-organisation of Departments at the Secretariat of the Law Society from 1 August 2007
To better serve the needs of members and members
of public, the Secretariat office will be streamlined as of 1 AUGUST 2007
as follows:
1 A new PRO BONO SERVICES DEPARTMENT will be established to manage
all pro bono initiatives of the Society, including our Criminal Legal Aid
Scheme.
2 Our existing Professional Standards Department will be re-organised into
2 departments, the CONDUCT DEPARTMENT and the COMPLIANCE DEPARTMENT.
The Conduct Department deals with complaints
and disciplinary matters.
The Compliance Department deals with administration of regulatory matters,
such as the setting up of law practices, application for practising certificates,
issuance of certificates of good standing, appointment of second signatories
to client accounts and book-keepers.
3 Our REPRESENTATION AND LAW REFORM DEPARTMENT will handle practice
concerns handled by our Practice Concerns Department.
Until further notice, our existing Practice
Concerns Department will remain only for purposes of dealing with matters
relating to our Law Society Arbitration Scheme.
