Annual Dinner and Dance 2008 - Colours of Asia

The Law Society's Annual Dinner and Dance was held at the Fullerton Hotel on 10 October 2008 and The Honourable The Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong graced the occasion as guest-of-honour.

Themed 'Colours of Asia', many members and guests came dressed in traditional Asian costumes including cheongsams, qi paos and saris. Guests were entertained by Melvin Shen's piano recital at the pre-dinner cocktail, our very own jazz band consisting of several talented young members, illusionist Jeremy Peh, and comedian Jonathan Atherton, who took away the show with his wicked humour. Celebrity host Joe Augustin ensured the programme ran seamlessly throughout the evening.

Following speeches by President, Mr Michael Hwang, SC and The Honourable The Chief Justice, the Society presented Mr K S Rajah, SC with the prestigious C C Tan Award. Plaques of Appreciation and Friends of the Law Society Awards were also presented to members and non-members respectively to acknowledge their significant contributions to the work of the Society.

This Dinner and Dance was particularly memorable for two reasons:

1 The Society raised $25,000 for its Bar Memorial Scholarship fund, and

2 Being held on a Friday for the first time, the Dinner and Dance attracted a huge turnout of both members and guests.

The Society is grateful to Republic Fine Wines for their support and to Jonathan Atherton for performing free of professional fees.
