A Decade of Quality
As we enter a new decade, we thought it fitting to memorialise the
Singapore Law Gazette’s first 10 years of this millennium. Although the
Law Gazette has been published since 1992, it is in the last decade that it has marked many meaningful milestones and celebrated a unique variety of articles and regular columns.
Since January 2000, the
Law Gazette has been published online in addition to its traditional print version. In 2001, the online
Law Gazette received a rare distinction of winning an award from European legal portal, e-iure, which voted it one of the top 10 electronic law journals. In 2002, Alter Ego was launched and its interesting interviews are still going strong today. In 2003, we shifted from monthly focus issues to a wider mix of more diverse articles with the occasional theme issue. We have introduced various regular columns over the past 10 years, ranging from Inside the Bar, View from the Top, Tax Files, Tech Talk, IT Matters, Regional News, Practice Tips & Pitfalls, Risky Business, Legal Business, and Work-Life Balance, to the more recent Tea with the SLG, Ethics in Practice, Disciplinary Dos and Don’ts and a soon to be launched column from the Family Court.
There were several memorable firsts for the Law Gazette as well, such as the exclusive interview with Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew in August 2006 and the specially commissioned commemorative issue in October 2007 which celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Law Society.
So, as we enter 2010, we pay tribute to a decade of the Law Gazette: 1 magazine, 10 years, 50 themes, 120 issues, 1,251 articles, 1,423 writers, 5,000 readers, 147,000 online hits and 600,000 copies. Here’s to another 10 wonderful years!
