Criminal Legal Aid Scheme Benefits from Charity Golf Fundraising
In spite of the bleak economy in 2009, the annual fundraising event of Charity Golf to benefit the Law Society’s Criminal Legal Aid Scheme went very well. To the credit of our steadfast donors and supporters, this year’s tournament has raised one of the highest amounts of the tournament’s 12-year history.
The event took place on Sunday, 29 November 2009 at the Tanah Merah Country Club, Tampines
Course. Our long-time supporter, Senior Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for National Security, Professor S Jayakumar, played a good morning of golf and helped to garner 16 VIP flights in support of the cause.
Minister for Law and Second Minister of Home Affairs, Mr K Shanmugam, kindly graced the after-event luncheon as our Guest-of-Honour.
To date, the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme has helped more than 3,000 people facing charges in court and is one of the pillars of the Society’s mission to facilitate access to justice.
The Organising Committee, chaired by Mr Gopinath B Pillai, thanks all donors, sponsors, players and volunteer aid lawyers for their unstinting support and generous giving towards this worthy cause. We especially thank
our main sponsors, Far East Organization, Singapore Totalisator Board and Audi Singapore for their invaluable contributions.
